In some households, homework time involves text books and notebooks spread across the dining table or great room coffee table.

This can involve clutter, which isn’t ideal for other members of the family looking to use that space. It also creates a lack of focus for the children trying to study or finish an assignment.

Other homes provide a more appropriate, effective setup for students working from home. Among them is the Andre by Homes by Avi.

This is a front-drive single-family home measuring 2,471 square feet. A show home depicting this model is displayed in the southeast Calgary community of Rangeview.

In this show home, there are four bedrooms above grade, including three on the second floor and one on the main.

Just off the foyer, the children, among other members of the family, have a place for productivity.

On the floor plan, it’s called a lounge. In the show home, it is seen as an open space with two desks flanking a shelving unit on the exterior wall.

It is easy to envision two siblings each taking one of these desks to work through their respective assignments. Their proximity make it convenient for the older of the two to help the younger sibling as needed.

The shelves are handy for properly organizing textbooks, with each child getting at least one shelf to themselves.

If needed, there is space to add a third desk on the facing wall.

The back stretch of the main level features an open-concept design with a central L-shaped kitchen siding on to the dining area and partially facing the great room.

Someone standing behind the kitchen island can easily maintain eye contact with a person on the couch in the great room.

This island has a sink and extended eating bar that seats at least four people.

The kitchen is shown with stainless steel appliances, including a fridge with french doors, and a generous array of cabinets. Storage is further supported through a well-sized corner pantry.

In the great room, the focal point is a stylish rectangle-shaped fireplace with a mantle.

Visual interest is a theme that carries over with an art niche in the wall next to the stairs and across from the kitchen. This spot is ideal for meaningful framed photograph, piece of pottery, or potted plant.

In terms of bedrooms, a central bonus room separates the primary bedroom from two secondary bedrooms on the second level. On the main, there’s a bedroom just off the foyer.

The main level bedroom is valuable for multi-generational households where seniors, among others, may need to avoid regular use of stairs. Next to this bedroom is a bathroom featuring a black frame shower with full-height tile.

The primary bedroom measures 13 feet by 18 feet four inches. It boasts an upscale ensuite with a walk-in closet accessed within the ensuite.

This format delivers efficiencies through a single fluid space in which to get ready for one’s day. The ensuite is shown with a spacious black frame shower, soaker tub and vanity with two sinks beneath a full-width mirror.

Both secondary bedrooms have walk-in closets, as well.

In the show home, the basement is a developed walkout. It includes another bedroom, bathroom, flex room and rec area with a walk-up bar.
