Hole-in-one report: Two aces during Tournament of Champions

Jesse Galvon claimed the trophy at the Calgary Golf Association’s Tournament of Champions at Mickelson National, but the winner wasn’t the only one with reason to celebrate. Grant Oh (Bearspaw) and Stuart Williamson (Valley Ridge) both submitted scorecards that featured an ace on No. 17, a signature shortie with a terrific long-range view of the Canadian Rockies. For both gents, playing in back-to-back groups that day, six-iron was the right call from about 180 yards out.

This is a darn good way to cap a round — and a season. Dawn Bullen was one-and-done on No. 18 at Willow Park, draining a dynamite driver from 162 yards away.

There’s been plenty of hooting and hollering at the McCall Lake Par-3 Course, with four recent hole-in-one celebrations. Playing his first round in years, Adam Hosie selected his seven-iron on No. 2, hit “the most perfect shot” and watched from 118 yards away as his ball disappeared below ground level. Heather Proctor skipped the putting portion on No. 3, finding the flag-stick with a four-hybrid from 86 yards out, while Ethan Jarrett repeated that feat by jarring a wonderful wedge from 119 yards. Last but not least, 17-year-old Callen Wilson aced the sixth with a wicked wedge that covered 73 yards.

Vic Berezan buried a beauty on the sixth at River’s Edge. Berezan smoked a seven-iron in a howling wind and was bang-on from the 120-yard blocks.

Jay Langlois and Hans Sorensen each completed their career hole-in-one hat-tricks. Langlois made short work of No. 9 at Hamptons, sinking a nifty nine-iron on that 160-yard test. Sorensen, meanwhile, was gripping his own nine-iron for an ace on No. 15 at Redwood Meadows, where his aim was incredible from 153 yards away.

The third hole at D’Arcy Ranch is a dandy downhiller, so Gordon Good would have been treated to a great view of this special shot — a nifty nine-iron that travelled 125 yards and dropped to the bottom of the cup.

Teresita Santos will be saying only good things about her seven-iron, her weapon of choice for a 114-yard memory-maker on No. 13 at Carnmoney.

Dennis Ramlal was perfect with a pitching wedge on the fourth hole at Fox Hollow. Ramlal has now aced that 111-yard assignment twice.

Marcus Matzeit was the toast of the clubhouse at Hamptons after sinking his tee-ball on No. 15. Seven-iron was the right choice for a 158-yards challenge.

Lee Drewry and Jim Uttley can swap stories after both aced No. 8 at Springbank Links. Drewry swished a seven-iron from a distance of 150 yards, while Uttley was precise with a pitching wedge from 118.

Cole Huse hammered a nine-iron on No. 6 at Maple Ridge and was right on the money from 184 yards away.

Kim Isotti potted a pitching wedge on the 115-yard sixth hole at Winston Golf Club, a pleasant surprise because she initially believed she had airmailed the green.

Thanks to an accurate eight-iron from the 98-yard markers, Larry Vetsch cruised through No. 12 at Shaganappi Point.

Six may be Curtis Thiessen’s lucky number. Thiessen aced the sixth hole at D’Arcy Ranch with one swing of a … you guessed it … six-iron from 169 yards away.
