Alcohol and drugs are not considered to be factors, police said
Calgary police believe speed was a factor at play in an early-morning motorcycle collision that killed a teen driver on Sunday.
Police said in a Monday news release that at about 4 a.m. on Sunday, a motorcycle being driven by a 17-year-old was travelling south on 52nd Street S.E. “at a high rate of speed” as it crossed Glenmore Trail S.E.
As the driver and his 2005 Honda CBR 600 crossed the major city artery, the young motorcyclist lost control and was knocked off the vehicle. He then struck the base of a light pole, sustaining fatal injuries. No other vehicles were involved, police said.
