Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate turned heads as he reported for international duty with France wearing a bright green hood.
The 25-year-old is part of France’s squad for their upcoming Nations League matches against Israel and Belgium.
The players arrived at France’s training base in Clairefontaine on Monday afternoon and Konate had the waiting photographers guessing as he stepped out of his car with a green hood zipped up to conceal his face.
Konate took a few steps towards the photographers before he laughed and said: ‘You don’t know who I am? Try to guess.’
The Liverpool defender then unzipped the hood to reveal his identity.
Konate’s choice of outfit did not go down well with France fans on social media, as many called for the players to turn up wearing team suits.
One fan wrote on X: ‘Stop. This is getting ridiculous. We simply need to stop talking about it and get back to football… what’s the priority? Fashion show or football match?’
Another supporter added: ‘Maybe it’s time to go back to the old school style, French team uniform or mandatory suit. It’s getting ridiculous, especially since they suck on the pitch.’
A third France fan wrote: ‘We are far from the time of Sir Alex Ferguson, where seriousness was there. In his time the guy turned around and it was over. Now it’s a mess, the captain doesn’t come because these are not important matches visibly.’
Another supporter said: ‘We’re hitting rock bottom and it’s really starting to impact the image of the squad. Stop the carnage FFF, selection outfit imposed. This is not fashion week.’
Another fan said: ‘The French team is an institution. There is an image to respect.’
