The Big Brother contestants have been announced as the series kicks off.

The brand new series of Big Brother kicked off on Sunday night, with hosts AJ Odudu and Will Best announcing the contestants one by one.

The first six cast members to be announced were Rosie, Emma, Segun, Nathan, Daze, Khaled, and Martha.

Bar Emma, all of the contestants were aged in their 20s – but the contestants all shared a huge amount of enthusiasm and excited nerves for the beginning of this series.

The 16 contestants are set to entertain viewers for the next six weeks as the show kicks off.

Rosie, 29

Rosie is a dental nurse from Cornwall who originates from Essex.

She was the first contestant to be announced and described herself as a tea addict who is frequently described as ‘weird’.

She said she was a ‘chill person’ and said she enjoyed fan fiction.

‘This is something I’ve always wanted to do and I know it’s so easy to say but it’s the best opportunity. I can’t tell you how grateful I am. I can’t even believe it’s happening!

Emma was the second contestant to be welcomed into the Big Brother house.

The Aesthetics Business owner is from Altrincham but originally hails from Essex.

The star teased that she doesn’t expect to act her age in the house in an interview before arriving in the house: ‘People ask me if I’m going to be the mother hen in the house – I might have times where I’m the mother hen but generally speaking I’ll be one of the girls. I don’t think I really act my age when I really should so I can’t see myself acting my age in Big Brother.’

Segun, 25

Segun is a Charity Videographer from Watford.

‘My strategy is to be at peace with everyone in the house. I just want to be at peace with everybody no matter how far I make it in the show,’ he said in a pre-show interview.

Segun also said he’s ready to mix with a range of people. ‘I think it’ll be an interesting social experiment to blend with people from all different walks of life,’ he said.

Nathan, 24

Nathan is a pork salesman from Dumfries in Scotland.

Nathan kicked off the show by saying in a VT that he ‘admired Nigel Farage’ and was a Tory voter.

He also revealed that before he sold pork he used to be King Charles’ butler.

When asked what he’d do with the prize money in a pre-show interview he replied: ‘I’ve had loads of thoughts about that. I’m quite vain. I got composite bonding on my teeth last year. And they stain – I love a glass of red wine so I would get a new set of veneers so I could enjoy a glass of red wine again – I’d like to get back to that.’

Daze, 24

Daze is a Climate activist from London who was the fifth contestant in the house.

The bubbly star looked delighted as she waved to her mum in the crowd as she was welcomed to the stage.

Daze said she wanted to be the ‘best version’ of herself on the show as she said she was looking forward to ‘living in a community.’

‘I’m really looking forward to living in a community. A lot of my work is about how do we upgrade democracy, how do we think about how the world can be governed differently. And a lot of it is about community, and meeting people that you might not meet in your everyday life.

And figuring out how you make solutions together, how you learn to be together, how you learn to set parameters that end up benefiting everyone. This show is a micro version of that,’ she said in a pre-show interview.

Khaled, 23

The contestant said in a VT that modern dating was ‘dead’ and that he is currently single.

In a pre-show interview he admitted: ‘I have no interest in being famous. I’m Lebanese and Palestinian and I thought this would be a great platform to discuss it from the point of view of someone that grew up in the west and has Middle Eastern heritage.’

Martha, 26

‘Life is serious enough. I think it’s important to enjoy the good moments and funny moments in life and take it all with a pinch of salt.’

She revealed that her girlfriend and their bunny rabbit will be watching her on the reality TV series eagerly from home.

Lily, 20

Lily is a 20-year-old from Warrington who has never lived away from home

The contestant who works in a Chinese takeaway joked she’s a ’cause for concern’ according to her mum.

The star promised to become an ‘independent woman’ while on the show and joked in pre-show interview that she only joined the show out of spite.

‘I originally applied because it was my ex’s favourite TV show because we broke up. I thought ‘I’m going to go on his favourite TV show’. I’d never heard of it. When I dated him, he was obsessed with it and I was like ‘what is it?’ because he was older.

‘When we broke up, I saw the advert and I thought I’m going to apply for his favourite TV show and get on it – I didn’t think I would. I also think it will be a cool experience,’ she said.

Ali, 38

Ali is a forensic psychologist who is a self-confessed ‘late to life lesbian’.

The psychologist admitted that she’s going to analyse her housemates and said she was undecided if she’d tell them what she does for work.

She said in a pre-show interview: ‘I hope that I will bring humour, friendship – I’m quite understanding and caring. I would also be someone that people confide in and come to for advice. That always happens to me – when I tell people that I’m a psychologist.’

Thomas, 20

Thomas is an Amputee Footballer from Carlisle.

The contestant said in a pre-show interview: ‘I like trying everything in the world. I feel like I want to give everything a go. This was another opportunity where I thought “You only live once” and I can be one of the few people who’ve said that I’ve done Big Brother.

‘I’m only young and it’s one of those experiences I can look back on and tell my kids, my grandkids what I’ve done. If I don’t make it to the end then that’s alright with me.’

The contestant also joked that the only thing that he can’t do is his own shoelaces.
