It finally happened.
The New York Mets are playing the Philadelphia Phillies in the postseason for the first time ever.
Carlos Mendoza’s Grimace-loving scrappy club advanced to the NLDS after winning a tense three-game Wild Card series over the Brewers in the most heroic fashion possible.
With their backs against the wall, down 2-0 in the bottom of the ninth, slumping slugger Pete Alonso mashed a three-run homer that gave the Mets the lead. Soon after, Starling Marte knocked in another run and David Peterson closed the high-stakes game out propelling the Amazins the victory.
Everything resets to zero now, though.
The Mets and Phillies — who played 13 times over the course of the regular season with the Phillies taking seven of those games — kick off their best-of-five round at Philadelphia’s Citizens Bank Park on with game one Saturday, Oct. 5.
Game two is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 6.
After that, the NL East rivals head to Queens for a pair of Citi Field contests. Game three goes down on Tuesday, Oct. 8. Should the series go to game four, the clubs will go head-to-head on Wednesday, Oct. 9.
A hypothetical game five will be played at the Phillies’ Citizens Bank Park on Friday, Oct. 11.
“Philadelphia-Mets playoff baseball is going to be intense,” Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo said. “And both fan bases, I mean, this is exactly what you want, right? Extremely excited for that.”
If you want to be there to root on Alonso, Francisco Lindor, Brandon Nimmo, Mark Vientos, Luis Severino and the Mets live at home or on the road, tickets are available for all five NLDS games.
