Former PPC candidate Trevor Wowk granted bail again after breach allegations

Wowk, 63, faces charges related to false documents and for allegedly trying to intimidate a cop. Most recently, he was charged with breaching his bail conditions.

Once again, a former federal political candidate facing criminal charges has been granted bail.

The most recent charges brought against Trevor Wowk, 63, allege he breached previous bail conditions.

Wowk also faces two charges relating to offences alleged to have happened on June 12, 2020 at or near Regina. The first alleges that he knowingly used a forged document (confirmation of employment letters) as if it were genuine. The second alleges he knowingly possessed the identity information (name and signature) of another person “in circumstances giving rise to a reasonable inference that the information was intended to be used to commit the indictable offence of fraud.”

On July 29, he was released on bail after agreeing to comply with a list of fairly strict conditions that included a curfew, as well as provisions meant to keep him from contacting people associated with the case, and restrictions on his use of social media.

Shortly afterward, Wowk was fitted with an electronic monitoring device enabling authorities to track his whereabouts. This allowed his curfew condition to be eased, confining him to his home only at night.

He appeared by video from custody in Regina provincial court on Thursday.

A bail hearing was held, after which Judge Murray Hinds decided to grant the accused man bail, offering him a second chance to await the outcome of his charges somewhere other than in a jail cell.

Wowk ran in the 2019 federal election as a People’s Party of Canada candidate in the riding of Regina—Lewvan. Election results indicate 573 ballots were cast in his favour, for 1.1 per cent of the overall vote.
