Davante Adams ramps up the rumor mill with wild cryptic Edgar Allan Poe post

Davante Adams’ time with the Raiders is clearly nearing nevermore.

The Raiders wideout, who requested a trade out of Las Vegas this week, posted a photo of Edgar Allan Poe to his Instagram story, adding a second post with a quote attributed to the poet, “Believe nothing you hear and half of what you see.”

It would be easy to tie Adams’ post to the Ravens — linking Poe with his famous work, “The Raven,” a team that’s been mentioned as a potential landing spot for his services.

The second post might help dispel that, but the obvious connection to Baltimore’s football team is sure to just ramp up the rumor mill the 31-year-old seems eager to dismiss.

Adams has been linked most heavily to the Saints and Jets — landing spots that would potentially reunite him with his former quarterbacks Derek Carr and Aaron Rodgers — but Baltimore has also reportedly checked in on his trade price, as well

The Steelers, Bills, Cowboys and 49ers are also among teams rumored to be inquiring about the cost of acquiring the former All-Pro, with the Raiders seeking a second-round pick, per multiple reports.

Las Vegas originally paid with a first- and second-round pick to pry him out of Green Bay in 2022.

Adams spent the first eight seasons of his career with the Packers, catching 73 touchdowns with 8,121 receiving yards as Rodgers’ batterymate.

Davante Adams set the NFL rumor mill ablaze by posting a photo Edgar Allan Poe to his Instagram Story.

Adams followed with a post quoting the famous poet.

The two have not been shy about their affinity for one another, as Adams’ name has surfaced in various trade rumors in recent seasons.

“How could you not?” Adams told FanDuel’s Kay Adams on her “Up & Adams” FanDuel TV show when asked if he missed Rodgers last week.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Greer reported this week that teams are convinced Adams is “engineering” a trade to Gang Green.

The Jets quarterback, however, isn’t tipping his hand if he knows anything.

“I don’t know how much I can say about it because of tampering,” Rodgers said Friday in London, ahead of the Jets’ matchup with the Vikings at Northumberland Development Project. “But I still have a close friendship with him. We spend time in the offseason together. He’s a great guy and a great player. The rest of that is out of my hands.”

Adams is slated to sit out Sunday’s matchup with the Broncos due to a hamstring injury, his second straight missed game.

It will give him perhaps even more time for fans and pundits to wonder, just who is rapping, rapping at his chamber door.
