Stranger slashes man in face, runs from police in NYC attack

A stranger slashed an elderly man in an early Tuesday East Village attack – and was cuffed after trying to flee from cops, police said.

Tylek McPherson, 23, cut the 67-year-old victim on the face and hand with a knife at Astor Place and East 8th Street around 2:45 a.m., authorities said.

The injured man – who did not know his attacker – was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he was listed in stable condition, cops said.

The exact motive for the assault was unclear Tuesday afternoon.

McPherson bolted from cops who tried to arrest him on scene – but he was ultimately taken into custody, cops said.

The Canarsie man was charged with assault, resisting arrest, obstructing governmental administration and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.

He has four prior arrests – one in 2021 for petit larceny, robberies in both 2020 and 2019, and a 2019 bust for criminal possession of a weapon, authorities said.
