One person involved in the other vehicle was taken to hospital in critical condition, police said.

A woman in her 40s died in a head-on collision at about 4 a.m. Sunday in Candiac, in Quebec’s Montérégie region.

The collision took place at kilometre 56 of the western span of Highway 30.

The circumstances of the crash are not yet known and are being studied, said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Élizabeth Marquis-Guy.

“According to initial reports, one person was taken to hospital in critical condition,” she said. “The death of the driver of the other vehicle involved, a woman in her 40s, was declared at the scene.”

An SQ investigator specializing in collisions was in place Sunday to clarify the causes and circumstances of the crash and the western span of Highway 30 remained closed, with a detour via Highways 930 and 15 in place for motorists.
