The FBI and University of Pittsburgh are investigating a possible antisemitic attack against a Jewish student, the second such incident in a month.
The unidentified student was walking off campus Friday morning when he was assaulted by a gang of six to eight men, NBC News reported. At least three of the suspects were in their early 20s, authorities said.
”During the assault, the actors used anti-Semitic language. A bystander intervened and ended the assault,” Pittsburgh University Police said in a news release which classified the incident as a “Hate Crime/Assault.”
The victim’s condition is unclear. The FBI has opened its own investigation into the assault to determine whether it met the criteria for a federal hate crime.
The latest incident comes after two Jewish students at the university were attacked Aug. 29 by a man with a glass bottle.
The suspect in that attack, Jarrett Buba ,is now facing charges of assault, harassment and resisting arrest.
