Adams’ 2021 campaign raked in $10M in matching funds in part from illegal contributions from Turkey: indictment

Mayor Eric Adams’ 2021 campaign raked in $10 million in public matching funds at least in part because of illegal contributions traced to Turkey, the indictment contends.

He applied for the public matching program for straw donations, getting “as much as $2,000 in public funds for each illegal contribution,” the court papers state.

He and others certified these contributions were all kosher.

“All told, the 2021 Campaign reaped over $10 million in Matching Funds based on the false certifications that the campaign complied with the law, when in fact Eric Adams, the defendant, knowingly and repeatedly relied on illegal contributions,” the indictment states.
