Police say 32-year-old Amanda Keewatin from Peepeekisis Cree Nation was declared deceased on scene.

A 39-year-old man from Okanese First Nation is facing a charge of second-degree murder following the death of a woman on the reserve.

At around 4:40 a.m. on Tuesday, File Hills Police Service got a report about an injured woman at a home on Okanese First Nation, states a news release from the Saskatchewan RCMP, sent out Wednesday afternoon.

“Officers immediately responded and located an injured adult female, who was declared deceased by EMS at the scene,” the release says.

“She has been identified as 32-year-old Amanda Keewatin from Peepeekisis Cree Nation. Her family has been notified.”

The release notes the initial investigation determined the death was suspicious, and the RCMP Major Crimes unit was called in.

“Officers arrested an adult male in relation to Amanda Keewatin’s death at the scene.”

The man charged was scheduled to make a first appearance in Regina provincial court on Wednesday.
