Hilton Laval employees reach contract deal

The union hopes the agreement — which includes a first-year pay hike of 10 per cent — will be model for others.

Unionized workers at the Hilton Hotel in Laval have voted 89 per cent to accept an agreement renewing their contract.

The federation hopes the Laval deal will serve as a model for other hotels, even though those negotiations involve different employers.

Fédération du commerce spokesperson Michel Valiquette said the Laval agreement included a first-year pay hike of 10 per cent, three per cent for the second and third years and five per cent for the fourth year. There are improvements to vacation time that will see a third week added after two years of service and a seventh week after 30 years of service.

Management will increase its contribution to the group insurance plan and changes have been made to training, using employment agencies, workload and tipping, Valiquette said.

Laval Hilton employees walked off the job Aug. 8 and Aug. 30 with workers in other hotels and carried out three days of strikes on their own.
