Cyclist dies of his injuries following a collision in Val-d’Or

According to initial reports, the 32-year-old driver of the vehicle deviated from his lane for an unknown reason before colliding with the cyclist.

VAL-D’OR, Qc — A cyclist lost his life after being struck by a vehicle on Saturday in Val-d’Or, in the Abitibi-Temiscamingue region.

Emergency services were notified of the event at about 2:30 p.m. The 53-year-old cyclist was in critical condition, according to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ), and died a few hours later.

The crash took place on Route 117, between the town of Malartic and Val-d’Or. According to initial reports, the 32-year-old driver of the vehicle deviated from his lane for an unknown reason before colliding with the cyclist. Both the cyclist and the driver were heading south.

Route 117 was completely closed for an hour. Specialists in accident reconstitution and SQ investigators were called to the scene to try to establish the causes and circumstances of the fatal accident.
