Cyclist seriously injured in Val-d’Or following collision with van

The cyclist is a man in his 50s.

VAL-D’OR — A cyclist is in critical condition after being hit Saturday afternoon by a van in Val-d’Or, in Abitibi-Témiscamingue.

The incident was reported to emergency services around 2:30 p.m. and occurred on Route 117, between Malartic and Val-d’Or.

The 32-year-old driver reportedly deviated from his lane for an unknown reason before colliding with the cyclist. Both were heading south.

The cyclist is a man in his 50s.

Route 117 was completely closed for one hour.

Reconstructionists and investigators from the Sûreté du Québec were sent to the scene to establish the causes and circumstances of the collision.
