There are many ways home design can be positioned to support a family’s needs. That extends to Saturday morning pancakes with the family.

A spacious, sun-soaked area to gather with pyjama-clad family around a table is ideal spot to start the weekend.  That experience can be found in Wexford by Morrison Homes.

This 1,919-square-foot front-drive model is now displayed as a show home in the scenic southeast Calgary community of Legacy.

Depending on current availability, the model is also offered in the communities of Cornerstone, Livingston and Wolf Willow, as well.

The entire back stretch of the main level takes in a generous volume of natural light, including the dining area.

Dining areas that are apart of an open-concept design sometimes feel like an after thought in an all-encompassing space. But in this home, the eating area is designed to feel significant.

It captures the benefits of being part of an open design, while carving out its own identity.

The dining area’s rear-facing wall juts out further than that of the adjacent great room, establishing visual interest. This wall boasts large windows, a glass door and a transom window above them, extending sight lines of the space well beyond the inside of the home.

Furthermore, a bulk head helps define the dining area even further.

An L-shaped kitchen sides on to the dining area, creating a quick and convenient path for walking over a fresh plate of pancakes.

The cooking space sports upscale touches such as a luxurious hood fan over a gas range and glossy full-height tile backsplash behind it. In the show home, the white backsplash contrasts nicely with the darker wood tones of the cabinets.

Some of these cabinets have glass fronts, creating a showcase-like display.

The kitchen includes a well-sized island with a sink and eating bar that seats at least three people and a walk-through pantry.

There’s an elegant arched entryway to the pantry. Arching is extended to other parts of the home, as well, including mirrors in the ensuite and a niche with shelves and cabinets in the bonus room.

One of the brightest parts of the home is the aforementioned great room, which is shown with an optional soaring open-to-above format. This extra wall height means there is space for additional windows.

The 14-foot three-inch by 13-foot eight-inch sitting area boasts a box-shaped fireplace.

This floor plan also allows for the addition of a den or suite. The suite option also adds a full bathroom. This route would be valuable for multi-generational households, including seniors who need to avoid regular use of stairs.

On the second floor, the central bonus room creates a buffer between the master bedroom at the back of the home and two secondary bedrooms up front. All three have a walk-in closet.

In the master bedroom, the closet is accessed from within its upscale ensuite. This creates an all-inclusive setting in which to get ready for one’s day.

The ensuite is displayed with a deep soaker tub, glass-encased shower with full-height tile, and vanity with two sinks.

There is an option to add a fourth bedroom on the second level. If selected, this would be placed next to the master bedroom.
