Quebec Liberals already have candidate for Terrebonne byelection

Virginie Bouchard will run for the riding left vacant by Pierre Fitzgibbon. But Terrebonne could be a tough nut to crack for the Liberals.

Even though their chances of winning the riding seem slim and the date of the vote has yet to be announced, the Quebec Liberal Party said Friday they have already chosen their candidate for the Terrebonne byelection.

Terrebonne will be a tough nut to crack for the Liberals. Between 1976 and 2018, it has largely voted for the Parti Québécois, although it was represented by then-Action démocratique du Québec leader Mario Dumont between 2007 and 2008.

Fitzgibbon won the riding in the CAQ wave of 2018 and again in 2022. In the last vote, the Liberal candidate finished fourth, garnering just 10 per cent of the ballots.

Bouchard’s candidacy will be officially announced on Sunday and followed by a meeting of supporters.
