C.J. Mosley out for Jets’ home opener in defensive blow

The Jets were missing the man in the middle of their defense on Thursday night as linebacker C.J. Mosley was ruled out of the game with a toe injury.

Mosley has been a fixture in the Jets defense for the last four seasons and is the play caller for the defense who wears the speaker in his helmet to get the calls from the coaches.

Mosley injured his toe early in Sunday’s win over the Titans and left the game.

Mosley did not practice this week and was listed as questionable on the injury report.

Mosley told ESPN that he sprained his right big toe.

The good news is it is not a turf toe or a broken bone.

The Jets now have some time off before facing the Broncos on Sept. 29, so Mosley has time to heal.

Jamien Sherwood started in place of Mosley.
