Suspicious fire badly damages Kirkland home

Montreal police arson squad investigators have been assigned to examine the circumstances of a suspicious fire that broke out a little after midnight Thursday in a residence in Kirkland.

While there were no injuries in the blaze, damage to the dwelling was severe.

Police were sent to the residence on Hedgerow St. near Lacey Green St. at 12:05 a.m. after the 911 call centre was contacted but no reason was provided for the call.

Officers discovered the blaze and called firefighters.

“Once the fire was under control, the firefighters transferred the investigation to the Montreal police force,” said police spokesperson Antony Dorélas. “The fire is considered suspicious.”

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
