Jamie Oliver was called out by viewers for his innuendo-filled pear tartin reveal during a recent episode of the brand new season of Jamie: What To Eat This Week.
The celebrity chef, 49, was talking viewers through a classic autumnal dessert, the pear tarte tatin, when the slip-up occurred as Jamie went to tuck into the delicious sweet treat.
‘Look at this, absolutely beautiful. A very, very classy dessert,’ he told viewers as he laid the flaky fruit pastry on a plate with a dollop of creme-fraiche in an episode earlier in September.
Then, with absolutely no warning, he added: ‘For me, I always take it from the back because it’s got that lovely, crispy rim. So, I’m going to get in there, and that’s just the best bit.’
Naturally, this left some viewers with their eyebrows raised, and quick to poke fun at Jamie’s unintentionally racy comment.
‘One of the worst sentences I’ve ever heard,’ James Furniss commented on X.
‘Jamie takes it from the back because he loves a crispy rim…’ Thumbs Up Dave said, echoing the TV personality’s own words.
‘I choked on water lol,’ Harriet5887 shared.
‘Loving taking that pie from behind,’ Mellowman added.
During the three-episode Channel 4 series Jamie shares simple but delicious recipes for the audience to add to their weekly schedule as we enter a new season with fresh, and timely, produce.
It follows his Spring and Summer editions. Dishes have so far included Savoy Cabbage Farfalle, cheesy onion soup and blackberry cobbler – to name a few.
At the heart of the show is the idea of ‘eating the season’.
‘Eating the seasons means eating food that hasn’t had to travel halfway around the world to get to our dinner table, which in most cases means it’s going to be fresher, more nutritious, more flavoursome, and probably better for our planet, too,’ Jamie told WhatToWatch ahead of the season premiere.
‘It is also about looking around you and seeing what ingredients and produce are available locally, then using and championing them. If you don’t use it, you lose it!’
The risque pear tartin comment is far from the first time Jamie has found himself embroiled in a minor TV scandal.
Earlier this year The Naked Chef star enraged fans after he presented a two-part air fryer series – Jamie Oliver Air Fryer Meals – in which he showed viewers how to cook, you guessed it, air fryer meals.
Many people complained about how dry the subject matter was while others complained about the wild ingredients Jamie was chucking into the titular air fryer (sesame seeds and directly grated cheese) which would be a nightmare to wash out.
Elsewhere, in a recent interview, the father-of-five opened up about his tough parenting technique which he hopes will help his kids in the real world.
‘Life’s not supposed to be linear or easy. I want my kids to struggle as much as possible, in a safe and controlled way. If it’s too easy, it’s really vanilla.’
