You’ll soon be able to belt out yer favourite tunes – badly, of course – in your F-150 Lightning or Mustang Mach-E
- Montreal-based Stingray is bringing a new karaoke app to Ford’s F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E
- While ideal for passing time at an EV charger, it can also be used whilst driving—but only by a passenger
- Other, older Ford models will be able to download the app, too, at a later time
Drivers need not apply, though. Whilst rolling, if the in-vehicle app is opened and the vehicle detects a passenger is in the front seat and buckled, the Stingray app will ask for confirmation a passenger is in the front seat, and a QR code will appear. The passenger can then use their smartphone to scan that QR code, launching a web page to control the karaoke session without having to futz with an app. Passengers can add songs to their playlist, change songs, view scrolling lyrics, and utilize the vehicle’s audio system.
By the way, this is how some other features of an infotainment system should work, such as typing in a destination instead of trying to find addresses by voice command, which reliably devolves into a shouting match with the car. If the vehicle senses weight in the passenger seat and that belt is buckled, we should be able to use whatever feature we freakin’ well please, in our opinion.
