Caitlin Clark is “so happy” about boyfriend Connor McCaffery’s next professional chapter.
Taking to her Instagram Stories on Monday, the star Indiana Fever rookie posted a congratulatory message to McCaffery, who was named an assistant coach on the Butler Bulldogs men’s basketball team.
“Yayy!! So happy for you,” Clark, 22, wrote alongside a white heart emoji and McCaffery’s Instagram handle.
McCaffery’s hiring was announced Monday by the Indianapolis university.
“Following a high-level playing career, Connor has had the opportunity to both contribute and learn alongside one of the best staffs in the NBA,” Butler coach Thad Matta said in a statement.
“Those experiences will be very valuable to our staff. He obviously comes from a basketball family that I know very well and I’m excited for the impact he is going to have on our program both quickly and in the long run.”
McCaffery played for the Iowa Hawkeyes in college and was coached by dad Fran McCaffery before he became a basketball development coordinator for the Indiana Pacers during the 2023-24 season.
His relationship with Clark was revealed in 2023 before the WNBA All-Star’s final season at Iowa.
McCaffery joined Clark in New York earlier this year when she was selected first overall pick by the Fever in the 2024 WNBA Draft.
She posted a heartfelt tribute to McCaffery in July for his birthday.
“Celebrating you is easy 🙂 thankful to have someone as selfless and as loving as you in my life,” Clark wrote on Instagram. “May this be the year you finally find a way to outshoot me 😉 Love you always.”
Clark’s message to McCaffery on Monday came one day after she smashed the WNBA rookie season scoring record in the Fever’s 110-109 win Sunday against the Dallas Wings.
Indiana’s superstar guard has recorded 761 points in 39 appearances, according to ESPN, besting the record of 744 points previously held by Seimone Augustus.
Clark is averaging 19.5 points per game, 5.7 rebounds and 8.4 assists.
She tallied a career-high of 35 points on Sunday.
