Tom Brady to the Dolphins is ‘not gonna happen’

Tom Brady will not come out of retirement to join the Miami Dolphins.

That’s according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, who was reporting on the next steps for Tua Tagovailoa, the Dolphins starting quarterback who suffered a scary concussion during the team’s loss to the Bills on Thursday night.

On “Sunday NFL Countdown,” Schefter said that Tagovailoa has no plans to retire and is set to visit with neurologists this week to assess where he is at.

Schefter then noted that the Dolphins plan to start Skylar Thompson this coming Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, before shutting the door on a Brady return.

“I know a lot of people suggested Tom Brady, bringing him out of retirement — that’s not gonna happen,” Schefter said.

The Dolphins previously wanted to bring in Brady, and in 2022 were fined and docked draft picks for having “impermissible communications” about pairing the quarterback with head coach Sean Payton in Miami.

Brady last played in the 2022 season for the Buccaneers and is currently the lead NFL color commentator on Fox alongside play-by-play announcer Kevin Burkhardt.

Brady is also seeking to buy a minority stake in the Raiders, which would not be able to close if he returns to the gridiron.

Thompson started two regular-season games and a playoff matchup for the Dolphins in 2022, when Tagovailoa had previously suffered multiple concussions.

Monday, the Dolphins signed former Pro Bowl quarterback Tyler Huntley off the Browns’ practice squad to be another arm in the room while they await news on if and when Tagovailoa will be able to return this season.
