Passenger in serious condition after collision with bus downtown

The passenger was taken to hospital in serious condition

A passenger was seriously injured Saturday evening in a collision with a Calgary Transit bus downtown, according to Calgary police.

Police were called at 9:25 p.m. for reports of a pedestrian collision that occurred near the intersection of northbound Macleod Trail S.E. and 11 Avenue S.E.

The passenger, a 57-year-old-man, is said to have placed his bag on the floor before departing the bus. When the bus stopped the man exited, but forgot his bag. The doors closed as he tried to retrieve it, and as the bus drove off, he fell into the path of the vehicle’s rear wheel.

The passenger was taken to hospital in serious condition.

“At this time, it is believed alcohol, on the part of the passenger, is a factor in the collision,” police said in a release.
