This 1.3L mill is an engine which makes gritty noises as the tachometer twists itself into the upper reaches of its band, and no joy was wrought from the accelerator pedal on the highway. Around town, the experience is much brighter owing to a torque peak which crests at just 1,600 rpm, putting power in the right spot for jumping into vanishingly thin traffic gaps. It is also notably quieter around town than on the open road, though we will lay some of that blame at the appalling state of highway pavement in our corner of Canada. After a week’s drive, we feel the Trailblazer is a machine best sampled primarily in urban environments; viewed through that lens, it is perfectly acceptable for the task.

Overall space for humans is comparable to others in this size class for the first row, but anyone of NBA stature should consider opting a Trailblazer without the headroom-robbing sunroof. Families with a peanut gallery destined for the rear seat should also take an extended test drive to ensure all hands are comfortable in that perch. Material quality is on par with the price of entry-level LS trims, though some surfaces raise an eyebrow at the price level of this $40,000 RS trim. A splash of red looks good and adds visual interest to the cabin.

A base price of $32,999 was affixed to our test unit, though it was laden with about $5,000 worth of options including $1,200 for adaptive cruise and a sunroof. Including destination charges and other fees, the car checked in at $40,074. Remember the base price of that Trax? Yeah. It should be noted the Trailblazer, unlike the Trax, can be had with all-wheel drive and was so equipped for the $40k sticker. This is a vehicle which shows its value better at an entry-level LS trim.
Chevrolet has just released pricing for 2025 iterants of the Trailblazer, with the Monroney for its RS AWD trim rising just $100 compared to our 2024 tester. Destination and freight charges don’t rise, meaning there aren’t any hidden increases. Good on ya, GM. Still, options can quickly get pricey on the Trailblazer; for a similar sum as our RS trim tester, one can get a fully loaded Corolla Cross hybrid which also has all-wheel drive but sips fuel at a rate of just 5.6 L/100 km (combined, NRCan estimate).
