Longueuil’s Sophiane Methot wins Olympic bronze in trampoline

She missed out on the last Olympics due to an injury during the qualifying process.

PARIS — On her last day as a 25-year-old, Sophiane Methot won bronze for Canada in women’s trampoline gymnastics at the Paris Olympics.

Methot, from Longueuil, Que., claimed the bronze with a score of 55.650. Great Britain’s Bryony Page won gold, and Viyaleta Bardzilouskaya, who was representing the Individual Neutral Athletes, came second.

Methot was not in Tokyo due to an injury during the qualifying process, and made into the field for Paris because of her fifth-place finish at the 2023 FIG Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships. In the preliminary round in Paris, Methot managed to sneak into the last spot.

“It was really intense. I came in (in) eighth (position) for the finals. I did everything I could out there, and I’m just really proud of myself for doing a great routine,” she said.

“It means a lot to me. It means everything. For the Tokyo Olympics, I wasn’t on the team because I was injured. I’ve had a lot of mental blocks (in my career). Just to be here, get through those things, and go out there, do the performance of a lifetime and get bronze is amazing.”
