Vehicles go up in flames in parking lot at Fish Creek Provincial Park

Firefighters extinguish blaze as flames consume three vehicles and damage a fourth

Three vehicles were destroyed and a fourth damaged in a fire at Fish Creek Provincial Park Thursday.

Firefighters converged on a parking lot near the Bow River boat launch, just east of Sikome Lake, after receiving reports of a vehicle on fire around 1:40 p.m.

Once on scene, crews saw the blaze had spread to two more vehicles, the Calgary Fire Department said in a statement issued Thursday afternoon.

“In total, three passenger vehicles were fully involved in fire with a fourth vehicle damaged due to the intense heat from the fire,” firefighters said.

Water and firefighting foam were used to extinguish the blaze. No injuries were reported, according to the fire department.

Fire crews remained at the scene late Thursday afternoon, working with provincial parks staff to clean up the site once the wreckage was removed. Meanwhile, Calgary police will be helping the fire department to identify and notify the affected owners, CFD said.

A cause for the blaze was yet to be determined.
