Sask. RCMP find man forcibly confined and severely beaten during drug investigation

Officers found “a severely injured, forcibly confined” man in a barn on a property south of Yorkton.

Two men are facing kidnapping charges after searches stemming from a drug trafficking investigation turned up an alleged victim being held in a barn.

Saskatchewan RCMP reported in a media release Wednesday that officers on July 29 searched a business in Yorkton. A 23-year-old man was arrested at the scene.

Officers also searched on July 29 a rural property south of Yorkton in the RM of Wallace. Police stopped a vehicle leaving the property and arrested the woman driving; she was later released without charges.

Police used a drone to help locate a 46-year-old suspect on the property; he was arrested without incident.

Officers conducted a further search of the rural property in which they reportedly found a “severely injured, forcibly confined” man in a barn.  The injured man received emergency medical care at the scene and was taken to hospital.

Police announced in Wednesday’s media release that searches of the Yorkton business, the rural property in the RM of Wallace and a vehicle uncovered a total of 14 guns and ammunition, 161 grams of methamphetamine, cash and drug trafficking paraphernalia.

An explosive device and detonator uncovered during the searches was to be disposed of by RCMP explosives experts.

The 46-year-old Yorkton man arrested in connection with the investigation faces charges of drug trafficking, aggravated assault and kidnapping.

The 23-year-old suspect, from Etobicoke, Ont.,  is charged with drug trafficking, kidnapping and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000.

A third man, from Laval, Que., was also arrested and charged with drug trafficking in connection with the investigation.
