Ronan Keating was overcome by emotion delivering a rendition of one of his hit songs during the last day on his radio show.

The Irish performer, 47, announced last month he would be leaving Magic Radio after seven years at the helm of the Breakfast programme.

Joining the station in September 2017, he hosted the show with alongside Harriet Scott from Monday to Thursday but decided to step down to focus on his own music and spend more time with his family.

This week, when it came time to say goodbye to his listeners, Ronan fought back tears.

During his last day on Wednesday, he took to the stage to perform his hit song When You Say Nothing At All.

He also performed Life is a Rollercoaster and covered George Michael’s Faith.

Speaking at the end of the show, Ronan said the reality of leaving was ‘really hitting me now’.

‘I can’t believe we’ve lasted seven years. I can’t believe we’ve been allowed to do this for seven years. It’s been so much fun,’ he told his co-host.

‘It’s all about you now Harriet, so good luck. My padawan, I hope I’ve taught you well,’ he joked.

‘You have taught me so much. You’re the radio legend, the DJ legend and I’ve loved every minute that we’ve had. You’ve been amazing and a great mentor to me Harriet.’

He continued: ‘I’ve loved broadcasting the stories from the listeners over the years. I’m not crying, you’re crying.’

‘It’s been amazing and thank you all so much for listening for the last seven years. I have loved every single morning.

‘It’s been hard to get out of bed early, but you guys have been worth it. Thank you so much. I’ll be around and I’ll come back to say hi every now and then.’

He went on to thank his colleagues, adding he would ‘miss them all’.

As he finished the show, colleagues from Magic Radio and its sister stations lined the corridors to applaud him as he left the building.

When announcing he was leaving the show last month, Ronan said it had been ‘very difficult to come to this conclusion’.

After initially coming on board for ‘a year or two’ he loved it so much he stayed several more and said it was ‘an honour’ to be able to ‘be in people’s homes and communicate with them like we did’.

He then said he was looking forward to spending more time with his family and doing school runs and things he’s ‘missed out on’ in recent years.

However, he did share he would occasionally host other shows, including weekends this month.

His replacement is yet to be announced.

Ronan’s career change means he’ll now get to spend more time with his wife, Storm, 42, whom he married in 2015 after meeting on The X Factor Australia in 2010.

The pair share two children – a son named Cooper Archer Keating, seven, and a daughter named Coco Knox Keating, four.

He also has three older children with ex-wife Yvonne Connolly – Jack, Missy and Ali.
