Kamala Harris will hold Philadelphia rally with VP pick on Tuesday: report

Vice President Kamala Harris will hold her first campaign rally with her newly minted running mate next week in a key swing state, according to a report.

The event will be held on Tuesday in Philadelphia, and Harris, 59, is expected to announce her selection by that date, according to Politico

Following the unveiling, Harris and her vice presidential pick will campaign in seven swing states in four days – traveling to western Wisconsin, Detroit, Mich., Raleigh, N.C., Savannah, Ga., Phoenix, Ariz., and Las Vegas, Nev., after the Pennsylvania event, the outlet reported, citing the Harris campaign.

The move to show-off her running mate in the Keystone State’s largest city will invite speculation that Democratic Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro is Harris’ pick.

The 51-year-old governor has been viewed as one of the frontrunners to be tapped by Harris and he was raised in Montgomery County, just outside of Philadelphia.

Shapiro has been stumping for Harris across Pennsylvania over the last several days, and his social media accounts have largely focused on promoting the vice president and attacking former President Donald Trump and Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio) since President Biden’s July 21 decision to end his re-election bid.

There are 19 electoral votes up for grabs in Pennsylvania in 2024. The state went for Biden in the 2020 election by less than 2 percentage points and chose Trump in 2016 by less than 1 point.

A Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll released Tuesday found Trump leading Harris in the pivotal swing state by 50%-46% margin.

A Harris campaign aide, however, warned against overinterpreting the Shapiro-Philly connection, according to Politico.

Interviews between Harris and potential candidates will be held in the next few days, the outlet reported.

The vice president told reporters Tuesday that she had “not yet” settled on a running mate.

Aside from Shapiro, Harris is believed to be considering Arizona Sen. Mark Kelly, Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Several other Democrats, including Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear and Sen. Gary Peters (R-Mich.), have also been floated as potential options.

Harris’ running mate decision is expected to be rubber-stamped by Democratic delegates in a virtual roll call vote by Aug. 7, which is one day before the Philadelphia reveal.

The Harris campaign did not respond to The Post’s request for comment.
