It is not really breaking news that you can split the Yankees’ season into two distinct parts — before and after June 15.
The Yankees went 50-22 over their first 72 games. Then they went 10-23 over the next 33 games, before winning a pair in Boston over the weekend to earn just their second series victory in six weeks and adding a resounding 14-4 win Monday night over the MLB-best Phillies.
So, heading into Tuesday’s trade deadline off a couple of days that counted as the most encouraging stretch the team has had in a minute, what with the convincing wins combined with a deal to bring in Jazz Chisholm Jr., the question is whether the third stage of the marathon started at Fenway Park.
There is still quite a lot to play out between now and 6 p.m. ET on Tuesday.
