Matthew Stafford will be receiving a bit more in his paycheck for this season after the Rams and the quarterback agreed on an adjusted contract right before the start of training camp last week.
Stafford will receive more this season and a bump in his roster bonus next offseason, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
The QB is getting $5 million more upfront this season and his roster bonus for the 2025 offseason is increasing from $5 million to $9 million, with the increase in upfront money coming from a later part of his contract.
The revised contract is not an extension.
Things came together on Tuesday after Stafford had told the Rams that he wanted more guaranteed money in the contract he signed in 2022.
Prior to the adjustment, Stafford was slated to make $31 million this upcoming season, but he would have no guaranteed money after that.
It seemed that Stafford was going to be willing to hold out or hold in if an agreement wasn’t reached by camp.
On Wednesday, the QB expressed excitement about being back on the field.
“I’m happy to be where I am,” Stafford said, according to the Los Angeles Times. “I’m happy to be here. I’m happy to be playing. I’m excited about playing football this year and that’s what matters to me the most.”
However, he wouldn’t go into details about his feelings during the uncertainty that it would happen.
“I do a pretty stressful thing for a living, so I’m used to those kind of things,” Stafford said. “I’m not interested in kind of reliving my moment by moment feelings here or there, but I am interested in pushing this team and getting to play with these guys for another season.”
Stafford is coming off a season where he threw 3,965 yards, 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
