Rep. Don Davis ‘condemned’ Kamala Harris over border crisis — then endorsed her

A House Democrat who voted on Thursday to “condemn” Vice President Kamala Harris over the US border crisis has just endorsed her.

North Carolina Rep. Don Davis issued a statement of support on Friday for Harris’ candidacy and urged her to pick his state’s governor, Roy Cooper, as her running mate — before slamming the Biden administration for botching the immigration issue.

“The stakes of this presidential election are incredibly high, with far-reaching implications,” Davis said. “At the same time, the administration and Congress must address the concerns of the southern border.”

“These issues cannot be overlooked,” he added. “I will continue to advocate for comprehensive immigration reform, including securing the border and other issues impacting eastern NC families.”

Davis added in a Thursday statement that he had made three trips to the southern border to see “firsthand the importance” of beefing up US border security

Davis joined Democratic Reps. Jared Golden of Maine, Henry Cuellar of Texas, Yadira Caraveo of Colorado, Marie Gluesenkamp Perez of Washington and Mary Peltola of Alaska in condemning their party’s presumptive 2024 nominee over the state of the border.

The nonbinding resolution, introduced by Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY), strongly condemned President Biden’s “border czar” for enabling a record-breaking number of migrants to enter the nation unimpeded, straining resources and contributing to crime.

The president tapped Harris in March 2021 to take on the “root causes” of the migrant crisis, with her portfolio focusing on the Northern Triangle — Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

Biden, 81, announced Sunday that he would step aside and endorsed Harris, 59, to be his successor after high-ranking congressional Democrats and party donors pressured him to drop out following his catastrophic debate performance against former President Donald Trump on June 27.

Since then, mainstream media outlets and supposedly nonpartisan groups have quickly walked back mentions of Harris’ title and left-wing stances — including support for doing away with Immigration and Customs Enforcement and decriminalizing illegal border crossings.

Axios issued an editor’s note earlier this week acknowledging that it “was among the news outlets that incorrectly labeled Harris a ‘border czar’ back in 2021.”

GovTrack, an organization that tracks voting records in Congress, this week also deep-sixed its 2019 rating of Harris as the then-most liberal US senator — to the left even of Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

At least 8 million are expected to be living in the US by October, according to government data.

The surge has been accompanied by alarming reports of terror watchlist suspects coming into the country, criminal migrants evading authorities and later allegedly murdering innocent American women and girls, as well as soaring rates of fentanyl and other drug trafficking.
