Police seek dashboard camera footage linked to fatal shooting

“Anyone who crossed her path instantly felt comfort in her presence,” says memorial post for victim Jordan Leinan

Calgary police have released new information and are seeking more leads about a fatal shooting that injured a minor and killed a 19-year-old woman who police say wasn’t the intended target.

The incident, which was previously believed to have occurred at 5:20 p.m. on July 20, took place between 5:45 p.m. and 5:50 p.m. on the same day on the northbound offramp from Deerfoot Trail to 32nd Avenue N.E.

“A young woman lost her life, and a family is now left without their loved one,” Staff Sgt. Sean Gregson of the Calgary police homicide unit said at a news conference on Monday.

“This type of violence will not be tolerated in our city, and we are putting several resources from across the service into investigating this incident.”

According to the post, she had been working for the City of Calgary as a recreational leader and child development instructor.

“She had a natural way of connecting to children of all ages from preschool to afterschool youth,” the post read.

“Anyone who crossed her path instantly felt comfort in her presence. She loved being with family, travel, loved her makeup and anything girly.”
