A wax figure made in tribute to the late musician Sinéad O’Connor has been removed following immense public backlash.

The waxwork was displayed to mark the first anniversary of the Irish star’s death.

O’Connor – who died on July 26, 2023, at age 56 – was honoured at the National Wax Museum in Dublin with the figure handmade by skilled artist PJ Heraghty.

It didn’t take long, however, for fans to express their anger, branding the sculpture ‘hideous’, despite the museum promising it had been ‘meticulously crafted’.

Strangely, the figurine was also placed in the Star Wars section next to Darth Vader and Liam Neeson in the character of Qui-Gon Jinn.

O’Connor’s brother, Joe O’Connor, was among many of the waxwork’s critics, slamming it as ‘inappropriate’, adding to RTÉ’s Liveline call-in radio programme that it looked to be ‘between a mannequin and something out of the Thunderbirds’.

Admitting fault, the museum has since apologised and pulled the waxwork from display.

Bosses have vowed to launch a new project instead to ‘create a more accurate representation’ of O’Connor.
