FSQ nursing union approves contract deal with Quebec

The union says 80.4 per cent of its members voted to approve the agreement in principle.

Members of the Fédération de la santé du Québec (FSQ) health workers union, affiliated with the CSQ, approved an agreement in principle concluded with Quebec, the union announced on Friday.

“After more than 20 months of negotiation, the members decided to go in this direction while there are major challenges in the health network,” the FSQ said in a statement published early Friday morning.

“Although this new agreement marks an improvement in working conditions for health personnel, there is still a long way to go. The challenges of the network are more present than ever and it will be necessary to roll up your sleeves in the coming months in order to counter the shortage of labour and promote staff retention,” said FSQ president Isabelle Dumaine in the statement.

The FSQ-CSQ represents more than 5,000 nurses, auxiliary nurses and respiratory therapists in the Laval, the Côte-Nord, Nord-du-Québec, Gaspésie and Montreal regions.
