New oil spill reported at Pointe-aux-Trembles marina

The Canadian Coast Guard has returned to the site three days after finishing cleanup on a previous spill.

A new oil slick has appeared at the Pointe-aux-Trembles marina, according to the Canadian Coast Guard, which is trying to contain the spill.

“Booms were deployed, a suction truck was on site to collect the dirty water, and absorbents were also placed in the water,” the Coast Guard said.

A drone and a helicopter were also deployed to assess the situation.

The Urgence Marine Environnement company was once again called to the site.

Urgence Environnement Québec, Quebec’s environment and public security ministries and Environment and Climate Change Canada were also informed of the situation.

Between July 12 and 22, 19,000 litres of water and oil mixture were recovered during operations in the same sector.

The recovered mixture contained approximately 1,000 litres of hydrocarbons, according to the Coast Guard, which identified it as motor oil but was unable to determine its source.
