Yankees rework struggling lineup with Gleyber Torres back leading off

The Yankees’ struggling lineup is back to square one.

Gleyber Torres, who led off for the first couple weeks of the season but had not been at the spot since April 9, was back at the top of the order on Wednesday for the Subway Series finale in The Bronx.

Torres did not hit to start the year and was bumped down in the order by the rise of Anthony Volpe.

But over time Volpe stalled, too, and so as his temporary replacement in Ben Rice.

The Yankees have particularly struggled against lefties, and the Mets turned to southpaw Sean Manaea.

The righty-hitting Torres has been the rare Yankee who has been productive in the past few weeks, hitting .300 with an .801 OPS since June 28.

That was enough for a promotion in a Yankees lineup that has not had a pulse and that had turned to Jahmai Jones as leadoff hitter Tuesday.
