Maniac hacks off own mother’s arm with chainsaw, hurts two cops in La. rampage: police

A deranged man hacked off his 70-year-old mother’s arm with a chainsaw during a crazed rampage in Louisiana Monday, according to police.

John Pittman, 34 — who neighbors said has a history of mental health issues — also used the tool to injure two cops who tried to stop his bloody frenzy around 2 p.m., WDSU-TV News said.

“Upon their arrival, the officers located the victim suffering from what appeared to be a severed arm,” New Orleans police spokesperson Reese Harper told the outlet Tuesday. “Right now, detectives are in the process of gathering information and identifying a motive right now.”

Pittman’s mom miraculously survived the attack, but was left in critical condition in a hospital, cops said.

The two officers “did receive mild to moderate injuries in the process of engaging the suspect,” but Harper did not specify the extent of their injuries.

Police also did not identify the victim, but neighbors said it was Pittman’s elderly mother.

“To see and hear something like this, it’s very, it’s shocking, it is disturbing,” neighbor Tawain Crockett told the station. “I just don’t feel good about it. I don’t.”

Pittman allegedly suffered minor injuries in the scuffle with police, including losing a tooth.

He was arraigned Tuesday on charges of attempted murder, battery of a police officer, resisting an officer and disarming a peace officer, the Times-Picayune reported.

He was being held on a $300,000 bond, the outlet said.

Pittman had one prior bust, an attack on a 73-year-old veteran at a local bus stop on Aug. 12.

That case is pending, the outlet said.
