Canada’s 10 worst-selling vehicles in 2024’s first-half

The lowest-volume vehicles in Canada, plus the worst year-over-year declines compared with 2024’s first-half

Over the course of the last 16 years, the automotive industry was plagued with three distinct marketplace challenges.

At the end of 2008, a global economic meltdown caused Canadian auto sales in 2009 to fall 11% – U.S. sales actually fell 21%. Not until 2012 did Canadian volume return to pre-recession levels.

The latest round of challenges, however, didn’t last for a mere six months. After a relatively brief period in which demand for new vehicles fell off a cliff in early 2020, the truly harsh impacts on the automotive industry for much of the last three years weren’t caused by a lack of buyers but rather a lack of vehicles.

That’s beginning to change. Years of pent-up demand is now showing signs of being met. Moreover, buyers new to the market are faced with historically high prices and elevated interest rates. Although different manufacturers continue to suffer from severe supply shortfalls with specific models, consumers are able to secure many vehicles in short order, if not instantaneously.

On the one hand, renewed availability has caused a surge in activity for some vehicles. Among Canada’s 10 best-selling SUVs, for example, all but one have shown sales growth in 2024 and four have actually posted year-over-year increases greater than 40%.

This leaves us with two separate lists of Canada’s worst-selling vehicles: the 10 lowest-volume vehicles in Canada and the 10 vehicles that experienced the worst year-over-year declines compared with 2023’s first-half.
