Russell Brand has been the subject of intense mockery after sharing a complicated X post in which he mistook melatonin for melanin, while ranting about US Vice President Kamala Harris.

The disgraced comedian, 49,took to the social media site attempting to roast the new Democrat candidate for the US presidential election after President Joe Biden stood down but was instead eviscerated for what many are calling a ‘word salad’ paragraph, intended to sound intelligent but lacking any real meaning.

On X, Brand wrote: ‘If Kamala Harris is to be the new pick in the “bait n’ switch”, “find the lady” cup n’ ball trick that we are being offered in lieu of democracy, we already know she’s a socially inept and empty instrument of intransigent, institutional power, solely offering cutaneous and genetic novelty to a famished pack of secularist devotees so bewildered that melatonin and an “X chromosome” could represent to them some kind of pyrrhic victory.’

Okay. We think here Brand is trying to say that people are celebrating the appointment of Vice President Harris, not because of her politics, but because she is a Black woman.

However, as journalist Claudia Cockerell pointed out, the Get Him to the Greek actor got confused between melanin – a natural substance that produces hair, eye and skin pigmentation, that Black people tend to have more of – and melatonin; a hormone used for sleep problems.

This, alongside Brand’s confusing use of words in his arm-length sentence, had X users shredding him to pieces online.

‘Not Russell Brand confusing melanin with melatonin in his attempted takedown of Kamala Harris,’ commented journalist Cockerell.

‘What on earth did I just read? Good grief,’ added Geoff McGimpsey, while @staydogsintown wrote: ‘Awful word salad.’

Neil Orpen said: ‘He scours his memory bank for words to make him sound intelligent – and often he c**ks up – his disciples don’t notice it because they usually don’t know what all the words mean anyway.’

@Poppy_yyyyyyyy joked: ‘Maybe that’s why Biden was so sleepy all the time, Kamala’s melatonin was affecting him.’

@EPLnews added: ‘I am convinced Russell is an early form of an AI thesaurus,’ while Barry Smith agreed: ‘Brand sounds like an early beta of ChatGPT.’

X user Joanna Mount said: ‘His writing (speaking) style reminds me of my own when I was 15 and trying out big words for the first time in an effort to impress my GCSE English teacher. So try-hard it hurts.’

Kevon H disagreed, and thought the writing dated back to primary school, as he said: ‘Russell Brand’s style of writing was me in primary school when I discovered what a thesaurus was and used it on every word thinking it made me look smarter than I actually was.’

Niamh said: ‘Brand has always been a word-vomit moron. Just shouting and spewing multiple big, nonsensical words to try and sound intelligent & off-beat.

‘In reality he’s a loser of sub-par intellect. I couldn’t care less about his political opinions. Irrelevance shouting into a void.’

@GoJonnyBananas added: ‘Posting an inept, unqualified and ignorant political opinion, but using seemingly clever yet flowery incorrect words like “intransigent” and “pyrrhic” to sound intelligent. Yes. It’s Russell Brand!’

Even TV presenter Richard Bacon commented: ‘Russell Brand has now trapped himself into backing Donald Trump and JD Vance over Kamala Harris. It’s quite funny, as he twists in the wind with meaningless drivel trying to justify it.’

Others asked where his comment had gone, as it appeared to disappear from his X timeline.

This comes after allegations of rape and sexual assault were made against Brand last year in a joint investigation by Channel 4 Dispatches, The Times and The Sunday Times.

The Forgetting Sarah Marshall actor vehemently denied all allegations, and said any sexual encounter was ‘consensual’.

While Brand has not been found guilty of any crimes, he is currently under investigation.
