Plane issues delay Mets’ flight ahead of Subway Series as coach questions ‘level playing field’

The Mets needed more fuel entering the Subway Series — which, in a rarity, is meant literally.

The club’s flight out of South Florida on Monday night into Tuesday morning was delayed several hours, leaving Carlos Mendoza’s group little turnaround time before beginning a two-game set in The Bronx on Tuesday night.

“Still sitting on runway in Miami, Forgot to fuel our jet,” hitting coach Eric Chavez wrote on Instagram in a message sent at 1:56 a.m. ET.

“Yankees at home, day game, nice dinner. Mets, just living our best lives on runway. Level playing field ?”

The Mets finished off a four-game split Monday night with the Marlins at about 9:30 p.m. before waiting several hours on the jet.

The Yankees beat the Rays at home in a game that finished just before 4 p.m., leaving the team with a rare free Monday night.
