More details are coming Tuesday morning about what caused the death of a polar bear at the Calgary Zoo.
The two male polar bears were sparring around 11:30 a.m. — a behavior the zoo has described as normal for the duo — when Baffin disappeared from sight.
“Baffin was deceased in the pool … It’s obviously a huge shock today (Friday) for our staff and volunteers to learn of this incredibly surprising situation,” Dorgan said.
It is not yet known what went wrong, but the zoo is set to share results of the completed necropsy on Tuesday at 10 a.m.
