A surprise kiss between two characters on one of the world’s most talked-about TV shows has been hailed as ‘iconic’ and a ‘win’ for the bisexual community.

In season 2 episode 6 of House of the Dragon, the relationship between two key players in the battle between the Blacks and the Greens developed to a whole new level.

While plotting her moves on Dragonstone, Rhaenyra Targaryen (Emma D’Arcy) has gradually been getting closer to her confidante Mysaria (Sonoya Mizuno), who used to be the paramour of the Queen’s husband, Daemon (Matt Smith).

In Daemon’s absence – as he’s currently on his own side quest experiencing all sorts of hallucinations at the haunted castle Harrenhal – Rhaenyra and Mysaria have grown to respect and trust one another.

During a private moment between the two women, a heartfelt embrace turns into a steamy kiss, which has sent plenty of excited House of the Dragon fans into overdrive.

In the same episode, Rhaenyra slaps Lord Bartimos Celtigar (Nicholas Jones) round the face after he gives her unsolicited advice about her role as Queen, another act that sparked praise from fans.

‘Slapping men and kissing women on the same episode? The bisexual community thank you Queen Rhaenyra,’ Nica wrote on X.

‘We bisexuals won, thanks Rhaenyra,’ Magali commented, while Amy added: ‘She has never been this iconic I fear.’

Karen also remarked: ‘Rhaenyra Targaryen the bisexual icon that you are, I’m here for this, this is the content that I want,’ while an X user called Barbie stated: ‘Literally fell to my knees like I’m gonna make this my whole personality.’

Mia also shared that while they were ‘trying to act normally’ after watching the scene with Rhaenyra and Mysaria’s kiss, they ‘did stand up from their couch and pace around’.

Following the release of the episode, House of the Dragon stars Emma, 32, and Sonoya, 38, opened up about the significance of their characters’ intimate moment.

Emma explained their belief that Rhaenyra and Mysaria had ‘such a desire to connect’, considering the Queen ‘rarely’ shares intimacy with others.

‘Even in some of her other romantic relationships, there’s a lot of presentation, there’s a lot of bravado, often from both sides. Certainly with Daemon, I think both parties struggle to reveal themselves in weakness, and that their eroticism is sort of predicated on power,’ the actor told Variety.

‘Whereas with Mysaria, in this growing relationship – it’s remarkably honest.

‘Initially, there’s huge feelings of empathy and gratitude toward this person. Rhaenyra is hugely affected by the life that Mysaria has lived so bravely. Then, they are two bodies completely overrun by touch. As soon as they embrace and their bodies are touching, I think it’s pure bodily desire.’

Sonoya added that the characters had a ‘really beautiful, tender kiss’, adding that she thinks sex and sexuality would have been ‘very complicated’ for Mysaria, given she was abused by her father and then worked in a brothel.

‘So to have that such a tender, loving and passionate moment would have woken something up,’ she added.
