Teen skateboarder dies after being struck by vehicle in Forest Lawn, police investigating

Calgary police are investigating a pedestrian collision that resulted in the death of a teenager.

On Friday at approximately 11 p.m., police were called to the intersection of 44 Street S.E. and 14 Avenue S.E. in Forest Lawn for reports that a skateboarder was struck by a vehicle.

Upon arrival, police determined that the skateboarder, a 17-year-old male, collided with a 2011 GMC Canyon while crossing 14 Avenue S.E.

The driver, a 75-year-old man, was going through a green light at the intersection. Police say the driver attempted to brake but was unable to avoid colliding with the skateboarder. The driver remained at the scene.

The skateboarder was brought to a hospital, believed to have minor injuries at the time. At the hospital, the severity of his injuries was revealed and he succumbed to them.

Police do not believe speed was a factor, and are investigating to confirm if drugs or alcohol were factors.
