Saskatchewan Roughriders facing short week without Kian Schaffer-Baker

Rookie Ajou Ajou caught four passes for 110 yards

“It’d probably be pretty tough for him this week,” said Roughriders head coach Corey Mace. “We’re still doing a deeper dive into exactly the time on how that injury’s going to look.”

“You can watch the film and see that he’s ready,” said Patterson. “Ajou shows up every single day and he works his tail off and he’s an incredible athlete. No surprise there for us.”

Smoke from northern wildfires knocked Regina’s air quality index to six, a moderate health risk, while temperatures hit 30C. Mace said the Roughriders were grateful to have an adequate facility nearby — the AffinityPlex — for their workouts, but noted there are no football markings on the artificial turf as his players prepared for the short turnaround.

“From a player’s standpoint, protecting their bodies, I get that,” said Mace, when asked about short work-weeks. “Sometimes it’s going to help the healthier team, but everybody’s got to deal with them.

“This is another opportunity to still mentally get those reps while also taking care of their legs.”

Montreal lost 37-18 to the Toronto Argonauts on July 11. It dropped the Alouettes to 5-1, came before a scheduled bye week and may have cost them starting quarterback Cody Fajardo, who pulled a hamstring and remains questionable for Thursday’s game.
