Singer Ayres Sasaki dies aged 35 after ‘being electrocuted from hugging fan’

Brazilian singer Ayres Sasaki has died aged 35 from being electrocuted after hugging a fan, it’s been reported.

On July 13, the musician was reportedly performing a concert at Solar Hotel in Salinopolis, Brazil when he hugged a fan who was soaking wet.

After hugging the fan, Sasaki is said to have suffered an electric shock, resulting in his death.

Hotel Solar, the establishment where he was performing, released a statement following his death expressing their condolences and support for his family.

The message, which is translated from Portuguese, reads: ‘Hotel Solar deeply regrets the loss of its beloved Ayres Sasaki. Since yesterday, we are entirely dedicated to providing support to their family and taking care of necessary measures.

‘We are in direct contact with your family, offering all the necessary support at this difficult time.

‘We reiterate our commitment to collaborate fully with the competent authorities for the due clarifications.

‘Our thoughts and condolences are with the family and Ayres Sasaki’s friends at this difficult time.’

According to Billboard Brazil, the Pará Civil Police are investigating the case.

The outlet received a statement from the police, whihc read: ‘The Civil Police informs that the death of Ayres Augusto Sasaki Matos is being investigated by the Salinópolis Police Station. Witnesses are being heard and expert reports have been requested to assist the investigations.’

The publication ISTOÉ Gente shared a message from Sasaki’s widow Mariana Sasaki, who he married in October last year.

‘I would like to thank you for every message of affection and comfort, for every prayer during this difficult time that we are going through. It is not up to us to understand God’s plans, but it is certain that His will is always good, perfect and pleasing,’ she reportedly wrote on her Instagram Story.

‘I ask that you continue to pray. Our sustenance will come through God, prayers, friends and family. I haven’t been able to read all the messages yet, but as I feel better, I will respond to each one. Thank you.’

Tributes have been made to Sasaki, including by photographer Raphael Macedo, who recalled their ‘many years of friendship’.

‘I am sure you would like to be remembered by your voice, joy and friendship! May God receive you with open arms, my brother @sasaki.cantor Rest in peace!’ he wrote on Instagram.

Several fans commented ‘rest in peace’ underneath Sasaki’s most recent Instagram post, which he shared in December last year.
