DNC moving ahead with Biden nomination, despite Democratic concerns

The DNC is planning to move forward with its nomination of President Biden for the White House — despite a contingent of Democrats clamoring for a new candidate.

President Biden would be formally named the party’s nominee in an early roll call vote sometime between Aug. 1 and Aug. 7, the DNC’s Rules Committee affirmed Friday, according to CBS News.

“Thanks to every single one of you, we will re-nominate President Biden and Vice President [Kamala] Harris,” said DNC boss Jamie Harrison, who remains a stalwart supporter of the Biden-Harris ticket.

Biden’s victory in a planned vote is almost assured. To win the nomination, a Democratic presidential candidate must secure a majority of the pledged delegates in the first round of ballots — more than 1,900.

The incumbent, who dominated the Democratic presidential primary this year in the absence of a serious challenger, has nearly 3,900 pledged delegates.

When questioned about whether another candidate could conceivably challenge Biden, DNC co-chair Leah Daughtry said “any challenger would have to have the verified support of hundreds of delegates,” BBC reported.

Harrison’s strong backing came as a growing chorus of Democratic party leaders have publicly called on Biden to get out of the race.

Behind the scenes, party poobahs like former President Barack Obama, former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and New York Sen. Chuck Schumer have all reportedly counseled Biden, 81, to pack in it — something Biden has become increasingly bitter about.

“Can we all just remember for a minute that these same people who are trying to push Joe Biden out are the same people who literally gave us all Donald Trump?” a source close to Biden groused to NBC News.

Biden, recovering from his third bout with coronavirus at his beach house in Delaware, remains as publicly committed as ever to remaining the race and has announced plans to his the campaign trail next week.
