One dead, eight injured after SUV collides with bus in Crowsnest Pass

A 44-year-old female resident of Fernie, B.C., was declared deceased at the scene

One person is dead following a head-on collision involving an SUV and a passenger bus.

On Wednesday at approximately 7:43 p.m., Crowsnest Pass RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision involving a passenger bus and an SUV on Highway 3, near Range Road 25.

Traffic was initially allowed through the scene, but the highway closed shortly after while emergency crews responded. The highway has since reopened.

Initial investigation revealed that the SUV crossed the centre lane and collided head-on with the bus.

The driver of the SUV, a 44-year-old female resident of Fernie, B.C., was declared deceased at the scene.

There were 27 passengers on the bus, with six receiving minor injuries and two being transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to a Thursday RCMP news release.

The investigation is ongoing.
